C053 Talvera Wine Jug

Lovely Jarro de Vino  from Talavera o Puente dated 1879 of the Pajarita (bow tie) series.  Global body with a single strap handle and  decorated in typical monteria colours (a vogue characterized by use of a predominately green, yellow and brown palette, with a rare accent of blue, on a cream ground which resulted from lower tin content of the glaze and a redder paste).  In the front there is a blue bird flanked by large, stylised sprays of foliage,his configuration is not much different from bird motifs used three hundred years earlier.  Two blue lines encircle the neck of the pitcher with a bow at the base of the handle. The neck has been broken and repaired.
